Prior to immigrating to the U.S. Scottie Reid worked as an Carpenter's apprentice in and around his home town of Edinburgh, Scotland. When he made it to Phoenix, he started working wood in the back corner of a lumber yard. He moved into a shop in old town Scottsdale in 1971 starting Scottie Reid's Southwest Designs. He quickly became a resource for builders and designers alike to provide that special original, one-of-a-kind piece of furniture or built-in. He was a specialist and an in-demand artisan and was named a "Master of the Southwest" by Phoenix home and Garden Magazine for his workmanship and unique designs. He also appeared on a "This old House" episode being filmed in Phoenix. Ron Harris joined Scottie in 1996 initially just to help with an installation.
